Public bug reported: I have a Sony VAIO YB3V1E/S with AMD E-450.
I did a fresh install of lubuntu 64bit 12.04 LTS on it, and i noticed that with the default opensource driver, the fan would never go below the medium speed (it seems to have three speeds: low, medium, and high). With the proprietary fglrx driver form the repos, the fan normally stays on the low speed when doing easy stuff like browsing the web, etc. I am guessing that the opensource driver probably isn't throttling down the gpu to save power (and heat). ** Affects: xserver-xorg-video-ati (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/992253 Title: radeon driver causes notebook fan to run always on at least medium speed To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-ati/+bug/992253/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
