Public bug reported: Hi,
On my Dell Precision M6300 laptop running Gnome Classic desktop, the machine intermittently fails to shut down and hangs (total lock up, CAPS lock not responsive) with the power still on. The shutdown sequence aparently proceeds normally then I hear the hard drive park and spin down and the machine black-screens and locks solid rather than performing a power off. Unfortunately, since the drives have spun down, there's nothing recorded in the logs to indicate what happened. I'm happy to perform any tests requested and I consider my skill level reasonable but I don't know how to narrow the cause of this down on my own. 12.04 Beta 2 worked fine. This is a new bahaviour since I removed it, did a clean install of 12.04 and performed an update. I've had every release since Intrepid on this machine and I've not seen anything similar before. Thanks.
