I have the same problem with 12.04 LTS, everything works fine but then suddenly it freezes the whole system, this has only happened when I used Chromium. The only way to get out is to either hard reboot or start a new instance with CLRL + alt + f1 than sudo reboot. Chromium appears to lock the entire system you are logged into, and it happens both with and without flash in use. [Radeon X1300/X1550 Series]
