Public bug reported: I have a system which has Intel graphics via Ivy Bridge, and an nvidia graphics chip. It is built out of this barebone.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16856101117 I prefer to use the Intel graphics in Ubuntu because the kernel mode setting provides a nice overall experience on the desktop and I do not play games that really demand much graphically. Despite having the BIOS set to using the onboard chip and the system actually using the onboard chip at the time of running the live media and installing Ubuntu, the installer scripts or whatnot still decided to install nvidia-current which broke Unity 3D until I had worked out what it had done. Setting aside open source ethical issues with forcing the installation of proprietary drivers, I can understand the reason since the nvidia open source drivers are a bit behind. That is, after all, why I use the Intel graphics instead for open source compliancy. That said, it would be nice if the installer could pick up on what is actually being used instead of shoving the nvidia drivers on right when it sees an nvidia card installed. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/998207 Title: nvidia-current installed despite using Intel graphics To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/998207/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
