I've had the same problems with Ubuntu 12.04 as well as Kubuntu 12.04.
Screen would randomly freeze, particularly while watching a video.
Pointer completely unable to move, and if audio is playing, it skips
like a scratched record. At first I thought it might have been
instability with the newest version of KDE, but when it happened with
mainline Ubuntu, I realized that it was most likely the kernel.

Using a Dell Latitude D620, onboard Intel graphics, Intel Core 2
processor, 3 GB RAM, onboard Sigmatel sound.
