Although I don't have 60% usage of gnome-shell it burns about 20-40% of my CPU.
This is on a Thinkpad X220 with a Core i5, 8GB Ram, Intel HD3000 GPU and an OCZ 
Nocti SSD.

Similar behaviour reported here:

However there seems the fglrx driver to be the issue which cannot be the case 
for me.
