Sorry for not getting back with you earlier on this. I had to leave the
office yesterday.

The application the I used while I was on release 11.10 of Ubuntu was
called "Network Connections" in the GUI and it is located at
/usr/bin/nm-connection-editor. I started by installing a clean copy of
Ubuntu 11.10 Server for amd64 (from an iso file that I downloaded) on a new
system.
