Here's a new twist... I had previously been unable to properly play ANY video file of any type (including the attached example) using both versions of mplayer you mention... so this issue did exist in the previous version as well. Replacing the ubuntu mplayer package with mplayer dev-SVN-r22974-4.1.2 had fixed this.
Just now, I did a "sudo apt-get install --reinstall mplayer" and the current version (ubuntu9.1) now CAN play all video files. Slightly issue in that the key bindings are not working (can't close mplayer window, have to kill it)... but is does play the video files normally now. ** Attachment added: "Example problem video" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/8109382/example-video.tar.gz -- mplayer quits abruptly https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/120121 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
