Actually, until two days ago I had no idea Ubuntu provided Eagle. I had
gone to Eagle's download page: http://www.cadsoftusa.com/download-
eagle/?language=en, and there's a binary available, but no mention of a
.deb file or a package in Ubuntu.

The binary just worked on 10.04 but not 12.04, since the former has all
the 32 bit libraries needed. When I upgraded to 12.04, eagle stopped
working, but now that I've installed the right 32 bit libraries
everything's fine again.

In any case, it looks like my circumstances were unusual, and there
might not be too many others out there trying to install eagle according
to instructions found on the eagle software page. I bet this isn't the
most appropriate forum for letting others know how to fix my problem,
but it would be helpful if it were available somewhere.

Take care!
