I am pretty sure I just reproduced this again in these steps:

1: Create a new virtualbox guest machine
2: Set Ubuntu Desktop 12.04 amd64 Alternate installer as virtual cdrom 
3: Boot up the system and install Ubuntu Desktop selecting "Use entire disk, 
encrypted with LVM" during disk options
4: When the installer has finished, reboot
5: Run: apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade -y && reboot
6: It fails to come up :(

This time, I do not see the evms error, however, it seems to fail the
same place : before prompting for LUKS passphrase.
