OK, I am reasonably confident that the patch from comment 25 fixes this bug.
From April 14th to May 22ed, I made sure to use a kernel that contained that patch, and I never had any post-resume hangs during that period. As an experiment, I then reverted the patch, and it didn't take long to get another post-resume hang. So the application of that patch strongly correlates with the absence of these hangs.
