- Open Firefox 12 or 13 - Go to : http://java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp - Normally a java applet should appear informing the user that Java is working. Instead, the web browser hangs a while and freezes. Obliged then to force quit. I already enabled Java for firefox by removing ICEDTEA plugin and adding a symbolic link to the correct plugin : /usr/lib/jvm/jdk1.7.0/jre/lib/amd64/libnpjp2.so in ~/.mozilla/plugins And typing about:plugins reveals that indeed Java is installed in Firefox.
