Public bug reported:

Ever since I had this laptop, PCIe-based ExpressCards would not be
automatically detected in out-of the box configuration. See bug 371434
for more details about this behaviour in older releases.

This report is collected from stock configuration. In the old bug, the
problem could be worked around by passing "pciehp.pciehp_force=1" to the
kernel in commandline, but even THAT seems to have stopped working (I'll
test this right away). If that's the case, then there's no way to get
the kernel to recognize a new card automatically. Fortunately, there's
now a rescan file under /sys/class/pci_bus/.../, which can be used to
rescan the bus manually. Not the best solution, but better than having
to reboot.
