Public bug reported:

On login for whatever reasons the unity dash/lens thig will not be able
to find any programs installed whatsoever..... running the following:

rm ~/.cache/software-center -R
nohup unity --reset &> /dev/null &

does temporarily fix the issue.... however problem keeps happening
