I had sound from version 10.04 on. Even on version 12.04 LTS I had sound for a while, then it stopped working without any reason about two weeks ago.
I didn't install anything new or make any changes in settings. Only the updates suggested on automatic update manager. Apparently, I'm not the only one with a HP Pavillion DV6 who has experienced the bug.
