My fresh installation of 12.04 on my HP Touchsmart (x86_64), with nVidia graphics freezes within one minute of logging in. It doesn't matter if I run any applications or not...the system will freeze. I can move the mouse, but I cannot type anything, e.g., to get a console, and nothing responds to clicking. (The keyboard worked long enough for me to type the admin password, open a shell and type "ifconfig eth0" to find my ip address.)
In the minute before the freeze, I ran software updates, but there are no new updates to install. I got the ip address of the computer, but I don't have ssh configured yet on that computer, so I can't ssh into it (if it's still running and if it's only the display that's frozen. I don't know.) I have no idea what to file this bug under. It doesn't work long enough to find out. Any guidance? (Meanwhile, my family thinks I'm nuts for insisting that we run Linux!) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993187 Title: ubuntu 12.04 completely freezes frequently.
