Same problem in 10.04 LTS -Lucid Lynx with lftp version 4.3.6.

After entering in

# lftp -u usern...@abc.com,password ftp.server.com

then at lftp cmd prompt:

lftp> ls

Get:

ls: Fatal error: Certificate verification: Not Trusted.

Using a backslash to escape @ sign gives same result.

Finally a:

lftp> set ssl:verify-certificate no

worked....although it did not work at first, but when I told the remote
admin of the ftp server of the error message, later it started working.
