Another solution is to use a TTF font specifically made for Chinese, for example I got it working with 'WenQuanYi Micro Hei Mono' font.
mplayer ... -sub <utf8.srt> -utf8 -font 'WenQuanYi Micro Hei Mono' This font is from package 'ttf-wqy-microhei'. I used the command 'fc- list' to find the font name. Arial, Times New Roman et al. didn't work. This works in Ubuntu 12.04. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/589576 Title: Mplayer and VLC problems with unicode Chinese subtitles To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mplayer/+bug/589576/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
