Public bug reported: This is a resubmission of bug 1018263 required for bug submission via apport (I won't repeat comments here as this is submitted from a VM).
As explained in the last comment of that submission. It was not possible to trigger apport on crash while following the apport wiki instrauction, so the best I can do is collect apport data on firefox. It does not appear to be possible to start apport with firefox in safe mode, and ubuntu-bug incorrectly claims that firefox has been upgraded since started and so refuses to submit if I pass --safe-mode to firefox.
