Public bug reported: While doing a dist-upgrade on my quantal, I got hit by a kernel panic, with the system unresponsive (I will attach a screenshot of the error).
After some reboots/retries, I was able to isolate the issue to the upgrade of cgroup-bin (and install of cgroup-lite). Unfortunately, I have not yet found a way to recover the system: * 'apt-get -f install' states I need to first run 'dpkg --configure -a'; * running 'dpkg --configure -a' results in the following message: "dpkg: error processing cgroup-bin (--configure): Package is in a very bad inconsistent state - you should reinstall ir before attempting configuration." * obviously, trying to reinstall it results in the same kernel panic as before. * as a cream-on-top, lightDM now cannot create a new Unity session (but, interestingly, KDM can). This is, most probably, caused by the pending updates not completely processed. I will try forcing the install of cgroup-bin (previous version).
