The fix does not work for me. (Ubuntu 11.10 i386, *Ubuntu default*
install, replacing gnome with lxde)

Running "sudo pm-hibernate" or "sudo pm-suspend" does work (without producing a 
lock screen).
By the way: upon return from hibernation/suspend I get  a "not authorized" 
warning dialog.

But I made a weird observation, perhaps this makes sense to someone:
Until 2012-06-29 everything worked just fine, but from 2012-06-30 on
I got much fewer entries in the shutdown menu (suspend/hibernate/logout/cancel)
exhibting the bug from this thread.
