I have just comfirmed https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/889660/comments/8 with my laptop as well.
My laptop shuts down properly when my AC adapter is NOT plugged in and running on battery power only... I know its a different bug report but I think knowing the similar instances might be helpful.
