Daniel, the difference from the bad kernel without and with headphones,
is that with headphones, besides the kernel muting the speakers, it
seems something set the 'Speaker Playback Volume' to 0. After you plug
the headphones with the bad kernel, can you go to alsamixer and raise
the Speaker Playback Volume slider, check if there is sound.
