Try deleting the file and then running update-apt-xapian-index again:
$ sudo rm /var/lib/apt-xapian-index/cataloged_times.p
$ sudo update-apt-xapian-index --verbose --force

Note: Because of '--verbose' there will be more messages than usual.
Please show us the commands' output.
