evidently it is loaded on those ocasions when it is working.
This is what I have taken to doing: I just keep restarting the system until I 
have sound. No kernel boot options; nothing. It normally takes about two or 
three restarts.
Obviously this is not a high tech solution!
Doesn't it point to a problem with the IRQ routing and/ or power management?
Very often the USB mouse behaviour is very much degraded on the first boot up.

Let me know what further info (explicitly) that you need to home in on this bug.
I have provided a working and a non-working set of diagnostics above, so 
hopefully you will be able to see what's happening in both cases.
Anyway let me know what more you need.
