Public bug reported: I've had problems with sound from the very begining, but on 11.04 it was semi-working. MythTV and Huludesktop worked, and that's all that really mattered (this is a home theater PC). I think I got it working at the time by messing around with .asoundrc and having it resample everything to 48000kHz. MP3s still didn't sound right when played through RhythmBox, but I never used that.
However, after upgrading to 12.04 the problem is back despite the .asoundrc not being overwritten. When playing mp3s or watching Huludesktop, the sound is fair, but not good. It sounds thin and every 10-12 seconds there is this metallic buzz. When playing movies in MythTV, I get nothing but this horrible fast popping noise. The motherboard is a P7H57D-V Evo. The MythTV hardware profile states that I'm using a "5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio".
