Hi theodore,

I've just booted up my old machine again. You were right in that one of
the non-root filesystems had a label of '/'. However, having fixed this
(it's now labelled as /media/hda4), the error still happens.

When I boot up now, it says (edited version typed in manually)

Checking root filesystem....
/: clean, 125149/1224000 files, 632389/2443880 blocks
....
Checking all filesystems...
/local: clean ...
/ contains a file system with errors, check forced.
/: Root inode is not a directory

/: UNEXPECTED INCONSISTENCY; RUN fsck MANUALLY.
/media/hda4: clean....
/var: clean.....

andy.
