I used the udlfb at (http://git.plugable.com/webdav/udlfb) and xf86 driver. Also I found this post on their site: http://plugable.com/2012/06/21/displaylink-usb-devices-on-linux- kernel-3-4-0/. It says that the new udl module can also cause panics. For me it seems that if any of those pieces are not there I get panics. I wish I could be more help, but getting a working setup so much trial and error that it was hard to pin down what make the panics go away vs what make the monitor come on vs what made xorg work on it.
