For those of you with Nvidia cards having this problem: if you feel like giving it a try I solved it by doing two things, but I am not sure if the combination of both gave me the solution or just the last one:
I first installed Michael Kuhn ppa and upgraded the system: sudo apt-add-repository -y ppa:suraia/ppa sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade Finally I installed xorg-edgers fresh X crack ppa to use the nvidia beta drivers: sudo apt-add-repository - y ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install -y nvidia-current I then disabled this last ppa from software sources to prevent updates to the driver that is finally working as it should: the random red screen bug and freeze at shutdown/reboot and the black screen with the moving cursor problem are gone (I tried suspending the computer with tons of programs opened for hours and it worked as it used to with Maverick). Note that this will leave your computer running the 3.5.0-4-generic kernel. YMMV Toshiba Qosmio X500 Core i7 + Nvidia 360GTM -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/966744 Title: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/966744/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
