** Description changed:

  Since updating from 11.10 to 12.04 my internal soundcard has become mute. 
Terminal displays that I have a soundcard but sounds will not playback through 
it.
  I'm pretty much a noob to this sort of jazz but something seems wrong.
  
  Any help would be much appreciated.
