Renard Voß, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. Maverick reached EOL on April 10, 2012. Please see this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases
We were wondering if this is still an issue in a supported release? If so, can you try with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . If it remains an issue, could you run the following command in a supported release from a Terminal (Applications->Accessories->Terminal). It will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report. apport-collect -p linux <replace-with-bug-number> Also, if you could test the latest upstream kernel available that would be great. It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please do not test the kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'. If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment as to why specifically you were unable to test it. Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance. Unfortunately it does very often not recognize my SD cards directly. - - In order to recognize an inserted SD card I have to suspend and resume - the notebook. - - Then the card(-reader) get immediately recognized. - - This "workaround" works with restart, too. - - But both solutions are not very comfortable! I'm not unsing the Internal Ricoh R5C822 Card Reader every day and therefore I couldn't say exactly when the problem arose, but I think it came up with the upgrade to Maverick 10.10. And eventually it has something to do with the hibernate/resume process, because I'm usually hibernating my notebook. Thus, probably it is a bug in the Kernel. - Unfortunately I don't now which information would be needed to find the - reason of this problem. - - I hope that the informations that have been collected automaticly by - ubuntu and this result can give a hint, where the problem could come - from: - - rennie@Pavillon:~$ lspci - 00:00.0 RAM memory: nVidia Corporation MCP65 Memory Controller (rev a3) - 00:01.0 ISA bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP65 LPC Bridge (rev a3) - 00:01.1 SMBus: nVidia Corporation MCP65 SMBus (rev a1) - 00:01.3 Co-processor: nVidia Corporation MCP65 SMU (rev a1) - 00:02.0 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation MCP65 USB Controller (rev a3) - 00:02.1 USB Controller: nVidia Corporation MCP65 USB Controller (rev a3) - 00:06.0 Ethernet controller: nVidia Corporation MCP65 Ethernet (rev a3) - 00:07.0 Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP65 High Definition Audio (rev a1) - 00:08.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP65 PCI bridge (rev a1) - 00:09.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation MCP65 IDE (rev a1) - 00:0a.0 IDE interface: nVidia Corporation MCP65 SATA Controller (rev a3) - 00:0b.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation Device 045b (rev a1) - 00:0c.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP65 PCI Express bridge (rev a1) - 00:0d.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP65 PCI Express bridge (rev a1) - 00:0e.0 PCI bridge: nVidia Corporation MCP65 PCI Express bridge (rev a1) - 00:18.0 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] HyperTransport Technology Configuration - 00:18.1 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Address Map - 00:18.2 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] DRAM Controller - 00:18.3 Host bridge: Advanced Micro Devices [AMD] K8 [Athlon64/Opteron] Miscellaneous Control - 03:00.0 Network controller: Broadcom Corporation BCM4321 802.11a/b/g/n (rev 03) - 05:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G86 [GeForce 8400M GS] (rev a1) - 07:05.0 FireWire (IEEE 1394): Ricoh Co Ltd R5C832 IEEE 1394 Controller (rev 05) - 07:05.1 SD Host controller: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C822 SD/SDIO/MMC/MS/MSPro Host Adapter (rev 22) - 07:05.2 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd R5C592 Memory Stick Bus Host Adapter (rev 12) - 07:05.3 System peripheral: Ricoh Co Ltd xD-Picture Card Controller (rev 12) - rennie@Pavillon:~$ + WORKAROUND: + In order to recognize an inserted SD card I have to either restart or suspend and resume the notebook.
