Thanks, this is something we do want to support.

One thing we need to consider is that the original container or base
rootfs cannot be deleted or the cloned container will disappear.  This
requires some special new checks in lxc-destroy.

Overlayfs does have some bugs which are not being resolved quickly.  (At
least /proc/$pid/maps being corrupted, there may be more).  Ephemeral
containers are deemed more 'experimental' than 'real' containers, so it
may be worth waiting to support overlayfs in lxc-clone, which produces
"real" containers, until those are resolved.

I will mark this Triaged and wishlist priority.
