Public bug reported:

How to reproduce:
(1) Log in as a guest using a Gnome Shell session (select Gnome in the login
window).
(2) Set the screen resolution to 1024x768 or higher.
(3) Start an application (e.g. gnome terminal).
(4) Start the black-box game, which runs in full screen mode by default.
(5) Using Alt+Tab keyboard shortcut for switching to another active application
does not work.
(6) Click "Quit" to end the game. The desktop resolution does not return to the
one set in step (2) but remains at 800x600 (used by the game).
(7) Set the screen resolution to 1024x768 or higher again.
(8) Start the black-box game again. Now, the game is running without changing
the screen resolution (the desktop is visible behind the game window) but you
can't move the mouse pointer outside the game window.

The problem does not exist when the game runs in a Unity session.

This was tested on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit with gnome-shell 3.4.1.
