  OS Type: 64 bit

Recently, external monitor output from my laptop has started being wavy
and hard to see. Additionally the screen resolution on the laptop
monitor does not seem to be correct (output does not fill entire
screen). It is almost as if the resolution for the external monitor and
the refresh rate for the internal LCD displays were being switched.

This behaviour is definitely a regression from versions of Ubuntu prior
to Precise, but may also be a recent regression on Precise itself (I am
not sure when I last tried an external monitor). I also note that I
randomly get "Ubuntu has encountered an error" messages that appear with
or without an external monitor and occasionally Compiz dies, but I have
no idea if these are connected to the problems I am having with the
  external monitor.

- This behaviour would seem similar to Bug #614238, but a fix has
- supposedly been released for that bug some time ago.
