This needs to be re-opened on gnome-desktop3 as on Quantal the error
message shown is no longer appropriate as unity-2d is not available.
As well as changing the error message is it not the case that on Quantal
the underlying problem can be solved by the use of llvmpipe?  I keep
asking this question but no-one has responded.

The existing message is

"Requested size (%d, %d) exceeds 3D hardware limit (%d, %d).\n"
"You must either rearrange the displays so that they fit within a (%d, % d) 
square\n"
"or select the Ubuntu 2D session at login.")"
