Public bug reported:

The package system on my install is not working at all. I'm unable to download
applications from the software center, via tarballs, or via terminal package
install. Haven't tried synaptic, as I'm unable to download it to use it...
Obviously, I've tried sudo apt-get -f install and the dpkg configure command,
neither to any avail. This has been going on for nearly a month, and it is due
to two broken packages 'empathy-common' and 'gnome-sudoku' both of which
originally failed to update after a fresh install of ubuntu 12.04. Since then,
I've been completely unable to use the package system. I have no 3rd party
repo's enabled or anything of the sort. The following appears in terminal as
output when I attempt to download...

fuckyouryankeebluejeans@fuckyouryankeebluejeans:~$ sudo apt-get -f install
empathy-common
[sudo] password for fuckyouryankeebluejeans:
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
You might want to run 'apt-get -f install' to correct these:
The following packages have unmet dependencies:
 empathy : Depends: empathy-common (= 3.4.2.1-0ubuntu1) but 3.4.2.3-0ubuntu1 is
to be installed
 gnome-sudoku : Depends: gnome-games-data (= 1:3.4.1-0ubuntu1) but
1:3.4.1-0ubuntu2.1 is to be installed
 nautilus-sendto-empathy : Depends: empathy-common (= 3.4.2.1-0ubuntu1) but
3.4.2.3-0ubuntu1 is to be installed
E: Unmet dependencies. Try 'apt-get -f install' with no packages (or specify a
solution).

** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
