To start compiz, the command line is as follows: $ compiz --strict-binding --indirect-rendering --replace libGL warning: 3D driver claims to not support visual 0x5b compiz.real: No stencil buffer. Clipping of transformed windows is not going to be correct when screen is transformed.
compiz appears to start, as my gnome terminal had true transparency.
