There might should be a warning especially about this conflict. This because the edger package causes Ubuntu to start in only 2d mode and with an awful lot of warnings and errors in .xsession_errors file. I experienced this when upgrading from 10.04 to 12.04.1. Maybe there should be a list of "dangerous" ppa/debs that must be uninstalled the correct way before an upgrade (or even the update-manager system could fix this?)
