The same problem occurs using an external mouse. The cursor may still be moved around with the touchpad or the external mouse, and the secondary button works as well. With the nouveau drivers the touchpad stops working after a period of inactivity or of high graphic output (ex. usually flash content in Firefox). Hence, this mouse problem is correlated to an X driven problem. This problem in nouveau was also present in Precise.
