Public bug reported: Under libvirt you can specify special dedicated serial channels that link the Host to the Guest OS. e.g. <channel type='dev'> <source path='/dev/urandom'/> <target type='virtio'/> </channel> On a Redhat derivative distribution this would show up in /dev as /dev/vport0p1 (with an associated link name if one was specified). On Ubuntu they don't appear at all. lspci does show that the controller exists: 00:07.0 Communication controller: Red Hat, Inc Virtio console And the kernel appears to enumerate the device. But no devices are created in the filesystem on Ubuntu.
