I have the same sound card. It works fantastic with Ubuntu 6.06, but I
get no sound from 12.04. I'm keeping myself in a "partially configured
limbo mode" (via expert and "server" modes), and attempting to figure
out why one version would work, but not another. alsa-utils, in 6.06
has asoundconf, but 12.04 doesn't. But I carried just that file forward
but still haven't found the magic.

If I try to start an application, it tells me it can't find a sound
card. (This is an overview post: I have been collecting lots of output
from both Ubuntu 6.06 and 12.04, hoping to "meet in the middle".
Example: Comparing "dpkg -l" differences between versions. Data will be
available to you if needed).

I'm carefully examining the actions in this post, and may find my own
answer. My question is more general: What's different between v6 and
v12?

Thank you and best regards,

Kenneth Parker, Seattle, WA
