The messaging menu works as expected, the problem is that telepathy-
indicator is started by default. It acts as if it were empathy, shows it
as running and sets the status to online.

By the way, the messaging menu isn't visible for the first 15 seconds of
the session: telepathy-indicator is started with a delay.
