There is an effort to make hotkeys work on all Sony Vaio models that use ACPI at http://tjworld.net/snc/ It doesn't list the models VGN-A190 and VGN-A397XP yet. Please follow the instructions on http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=465491 and submit your BIOS and ACPI data, this will help in getting them working.
