Public bug reported:

When I use desktop effects enabled, starting and closing firefox
(15.0.1+build1-0ubuntu0) eventually crashes the X server with a Null
pointer exception.

Using fglrx-updates (8.960-0ubuntu1.1) and also trying the upstream 12.9
beta release with Kubuntu Precise, with xorg (1:7.6+12ubuntu1) package.
