Sound disappears after hibernate for me too, I tried almost every suggestion above - nothing resolved this problem. The only thing I was unable to try is hibernate on Linux -> log in win -> check the sound -> go back to linux - I don`t have win on may laptop, speaking of which - Feisty with 2.6.20-16-generic kernel on IBM R50e.
If boot from live CD, sounds works great.
