Public bug reported: Just about every time I've installed a *buntu, using the "alternate" ISOs, the same thing happens: 1) The installer asks for information such as desired username and password, time zone, and keyboard layout. 2) After filling out a few pages, it appears to start a long-running task, so at this point I assume it has all the information it needs and can complete installation unattended, so I go do something else for a while. 3) I come back hours later expecting the installation to be done, and instead see it barely started, paused, asking for HTTP proxy information.
It's a huge waste of time, and poor UI design to wait until partway through a long-running process to ask for more information you need to finish it, when you know you'll need it every time. It should prompt for this information right at the beginning, and probably do a connection test, so you can safely leave for a few hours after starting the installation and it'll actually be done when you get back. Perhaps it could even just try to connect without a proxy and see if that works, since I imagine it usually will. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1064569 Title: Text-based installer should prompt for HTTP proxy information at beginning of process To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1064569/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
