Hi again,

Strange thing, the bug has come back, but only on my 32 bits install;
works fine in the 64 bits (both upgraded from 12.04)

Alternative-menu extension is deactivated, so it's not the culprit.

The error in ~/.xsession-errors is

    JS ERROR: !!! Exception was: Gio.IOErrorEnum: Cannot invoke method; proxy
is for a well-known name without an owner and proxy was constructed with the
G_DBUS_PROXY_FLAGS_DO_NOT_AUTO_START flag
    JS ERROR: !!! message = '"Cannot invoke method; proxy is for a
well-known name without an owner and proxy was constructed with the
G_DBUS_PROXY_FLAGS_DO_NOT_AUTO_START flag"'
    JS ERROR: !!!     fileName =
'"/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/screenShield.js"'
    JS ERROR: !!!     lineNumber = '884'
    JS ERROR: !!!     stack = '"0 anonymous("result" = [object
_private_Gio_SimpleAsyncResult], "proxy" = [object
_private_Gio_DBusProxy])@/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/screenShield.js:884
"'
