No, there was never a usplash screen. It showed text all the way until the login screen. Very similar to selecting the recovery mode option. This was once installed, not while booting the live CD.
Actually, I'm afraid I can't include the output. I have since reinstalled with ubuntu and passed the computer on. It is no longer in my possession. At the moment I don't have anything else to try this on. Sorry. Perhaps someone with a similar issue could add that info. ** Description changed: I did a clean install of kubuntu feisty on a Dell D505 laptop. I used a kubuntu cd from shipit. After installing, there is no boot splash during the boot process. Instead, there is only a lot of text. The boot splash I am referring to is the one that says "kubuntu" with the graphical progress bar. I installed twice thinking this could have been an install error. I then installed using an ubuntu shipit cd. After install, there was a graphical "ubuntu" boot splash. Once installed, I did sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop - Ubuntu rebooting, the graphical boot splash is once again gone. + Upon rebooting, the graphical boot splash is once again gone. There seems to be a problem with the booth splash used with kubuntu. I was setting this machine up for an older, low tech user and the graphical boot is "less scary". I did not try to fix this nor have I tried to install on any other computer.
