Hi, As I said before, Unity/Compiz look like the most possible reason other than Kernel. In my case, I don't use the candy stuff from Compiz; my daughter does and that's the most likely explanation as why I almost never get the problem.
I downgraded both Ubuntus to the normal Kernel and, on top of that, my daugther is out of the country for a couple of months and, as you may guess, she took his precious Ubuntu away with her.
