Public bug reported: If i copy larger files with Ubuntu 12.04 to my USB drive then it gets very slow in the progress. Under Ubuntu 10.10 i could copy more then 30 MB/s using USB 2.0 connector. If i remember correctly i had a similar issue under Ubuntu 10.10 which also lead nautilus to crash quite often. I could fix it with some setting (years ago, can't remember where) so that every automatically mounted device was mounted synchronized, which fixed the problem. Since i upgraded to Ubuntu 12.04 i have this problem again. All drives will be mounted as async, which should not be an bad idea in general, but if it is mounted that way the copying is delayed and the transfer rate is usually at about 5 MB/s, even so it is the same USB drive.
That the drive and USB port is bored and not used to full potential is obvious if i copy two or more large files at once. Then the overall transfer rate increases until the drive can't keep up any more due to excessive seeking. Copying multiple files at once actually reaches up to 20 MB/s. Since i work often with huge files this is somehow frustrating, since i have to wait a long time until i can unplug the device.
